Louisiana Association of Catholic Campus Ministers

The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord. (Luke 4:18-19)

Believing that we are all called through Baptism and empowered by the Spirit to be the presence of Jesus Christ, the Louisiana Association of Catholic Campus Ministers (LACCM) joyfully serves the body of Christ in all the college and university communities in the state of Louisiana.

As a professional association, we:

Are commissioned by and accountable to the Louisiana Catholic Conference (LCC):

  • provide support, collaboration, and communication among ourselves as we accompany one another on the journey of faith and ministry;
  • model leadership for the Louisiana Catholic College Students (LCCS) through liaison representation and by planning opportunities for the faith development.

(Developed Spring of 1995)

History

Originally, the campus minister's organization was a committee of the Louisiana Catholic Conference (LCC: The organization of Catholic Bishops and the heads of the various diocesan offices). Several years ago we asked to be allowed to form a professional organization while retaining our contact with the LCC. Today the LACCM is recognized as a separate organization with its own mission statement, constitution, and bylaws. Full membership in the association is open to all Catholic Campus Ministers in Louisiana . Dues are paid by each Center that automatically entitles campus ministers to full membership. Others interested in campus ministry but are not actively involved at the time may join the associate members and pay individual dues.

The association has two regular meetings each year. The fall meeting is always a two-day continuing formation meeting at which a guest speaker helps us to explore a topic relevant to campus ministry. Election and installation of officers for the year takes place at this time. The spring meeting provides an opportunity for sharing programs and dreams and to finalize plans for the LCCS Leadership Week. Besides these two meetings, an orientation meeting for new members is held as close to the beginning of the school year as possible. This gathering is mainly social so that members can really get to know one another and also to give new members an introduction to who we are and what we do as an organization.

LACCM divided into three regional groups to help facilitate better communication and peer support:
